GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT (RA), CLEMSON COMPOSITES CENTER, CU-ICAR

Jan 2021 - Present

  • Modeled a plaque, gate, runner, and cooling channel system using Solidworks and Moldex 3D to simulate ScF assisted injection molding of Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO) foams.

  • Deployed solid and foam injection molding simulations using Moldex 3D and assessed the post-processing results to correlate with experimental results to establish manufacturing to response pathway.

  • Minimized short shot and flashing in injection molded parts by optimizing the input parameters during manufacturing which reduced the error percentage by 15%.

  • Assisted in thermoforming of different composite materials with different fiber orientations.

  • Performed tensile and flexural testing of different materials according to ASTM D3039 and …

  • Formulated work instructions for manufacturing, maintenance and tool change cycle for thermoforming and injection molding equipment.

ASHOK LEYLAND TECHNICAL CENTRE (R&D), CHENNAI

Dec 2017 - Mar 2018

  • Worked as a part of the Component Testing Laboratory (CTL) team in re-engineering a complete modular frontal impact test rig used for testing on commercial vehicles using CATIA v5. Performed FEA analysis using ANSYS to ensure the modified design withstands the excessive torsion during the test compared to its baseline design.

  • Performed a Root Cause Analysis for the bending issue of pendulum used for frontal impact and performed design changes, which improved the torsional performance by 10% and eliminated rework on the test setup after every test conducted, thereby reducing the budget of each test by 30%. Conducted a Design FMEA by coordinating with a cross-functional team while brainstorming how each component could fail in the design and testing phase. Quantified the failure modes using Risk Prioritization Number (RPN) and performed appropriate design changes to nullify the high RPN failures.

TEAM TRAXION, FORMULA BHARAT 2018

Feb 2017 - Feb 2018

  • Team Traxion is a part of the SVCE Motorsports division where a team of students work in building a formula spec vehicle to participate in Formula Bharat and SAE Supra events each year.

  • I was a part of this team working on designing a tubular Body-in-White structure with a major focus on weight reduction, stiffness, ergonomics, and manufacturability.

  • Performed roll cage analysis with front, side and rear impact loading conditions followed by modal analysis using ANSYS. Employed light weighting methods which led to a decrease in the overall weight of the frame by 10% from baseline design with an increase in stiffness by 20%.
